Alternate COMSEC Custodian

Job Summary

As an Alternate COMSEC Custodian you will be responsible for the receipt custody, issue, safeguarding, accounting for and when necessary the destruction of COMSEC material. You will be responsible for the maintenance of up-to-date records and the submission of all required accounting reports. You will assist the government COMSEC Custodian and provide continuity of operations in the custodian’s absence.

Job Duties & Knowledge

  • Provide guidance to USDA Office of the Secretary, Executive Staff, Mission Areas, Agencies, and Staff Offices on all matters pertaining to COMSEC
  • Operate and maintain Communications Security (COMSEC) equipment and material
  • Provide operational support of the Crisis Management System (CMS)
  • Operate and maintain the HSDN system
  • Process account activation/deactivation
  • Provide inventory control of all COMSEC material in accordance with National Security Agency guidelines
  • Provide hands-on installation, maintenance, configuration and troubleshooting of COMSEC equipment required
  • Provide training and COMSEC oversight to local and remote site personnel for the KG-175A, KG-175D, KG-175G, KG-245X, Sectera VIPER, Sectera GSM, Sectera Wireline Terminal, STE, DTD, SDS (KIK-20) and RASKL (KIK-30)
  • Provide operational support of secure video conferencing system
  • Maintain scheduling of multiple conference rooms with the capability
  • Escort maintenance personnel as required for system maintenance
  • Ensure all security guidelines are followed in the handling and processing of Classified National Security Information

Experience

  • Five (5) or more years supporting COMSEC related activities
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active Top Secret security clearance and an active SCI
  • Experience with Key Management Infrastructure (KMI), KG-175s, KG-250s, KY-99M, KIK-30 (RASKL), Secure Telephone Equipment (STE), Iridium Secure Satellite Phones, VIPER Secure Telephones, and DMCC Secure Mobile Devices
  • Experience in upgrading cryptographic device firmware and interoperability of firmware versions between enterprise encryptors
  • Knowledge of the General Dynamics Taclane line of In-Line Network Encryptors (INE) to include the KG-175A, KG-175D and KG-175G
  • Experience in Suite-A and Suite-B network environments, architecture and keymat requirements
  • Be able to read and interpret complex network drawings and documentation as they relate to cryptographic requirements
  • Experience in the programming and operational functions of approved key fill devices including KIK-20 and KIK-30 and AN/CYZ-10

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Meet training requirements as a COMSEC Manager or Alternate
